Beyond Words

Beyond Words

My youngest child was crying uncontrollably because of something that happened. I could barely understand what he was saying while his body shook from being emotionally upset. What did I notice most - his breath. It was fast and erratic.

In the past, I would try to offer words of comfort or reason, letting him know that everything was going to be ok, or tell him to take a deep breath. Instead, I held him in my arms. I didn’t try to change his feelings. I didn’t try to shift how he perceived the situation. I didn’t use words at all.

I simply changed the way I was breathing.

I held him and began to breathe deeply and slowly. In less than a minute, his breathing changed, too! He stopped crying. His breath was slow, deep, and calm. Our breaths had synchronized. How incredible.

At that moment, my heart opened - exploding with gratitude. I was grateful for the transformative power of love, the transformative power of breath - love and breath, two energies that exist beyond words or reason.

This is “Life Power.”

We are alive because of the breath - the first gift we receive in life.

Through Naam and my teacher Dr. Levry, I have come to experience “Breath as Life Power.” I have come to experience breath as a form of nourishment.

We can breathe in a way that strengthens, connects, and heals us or breathe in a way that weakens, disconnects, or brings illness.

How long can you live without food? How long can you live without water? How long can you live without the Breath? Why not take care of your breath and make it the most important thing you do in life?

The way we breathe has a direct effect on our health, mind, surroundings, and others.

By changing our internal world through the breath, we change our external world.

When I first went to Dr. Levry for guidance and a personal practice, I said, “I want energy. I need energy to support this beautiful life I have created full of family and work. Whatever you give me, I’m going to do it and commit to it.”

I didn’t realize I was exhausted from my emotions, thoughts, and worries - habits from being a parent. It was not the activity that was exhausting. It was how I was thinking, feeling, and breathing that was exhausting me.

As a result of my morning practice, I received the energy! I’m so glad I asked for what I needed. This energy became a form of wealth in my life. I could create, heal, parent, work, and give with this energy. Through my practice, I slept better, woke up refreshed, more creative, relaxed, and kinder to my family. I didn’t change my diet, reduce my activities, or try out new parenting techniques. I simply changed the way I breathed.

Since I was changing, my life was changing, my family’s life was changing.

Dr. Levry says that “Every breath is a prayer.” Every time I hear or think of this, I am reminded of the power of life that moves through us all.

To pray is a simple act of creating an intention. What are you asking for? What do you want to receive in your life? What are you creating in your life through the breath?

The breath needs attention and direction. So give your breath attention and direction.

Remember, you can always choose how you breathe, and through your breath, you can choose your state of being.

Deepen Your Practice: Try out three-point breath to calm the mind, raise your frequency, and bring harmony and balance to your life.

Three-point breath is a 1:1:1 ratio. Inhale for 8 counts, hold the breath in for 8 counts, and exhale for 8 counts. Over time, you can lengthen your breath cycle. Do this for three minutes and notice how you feel. You can lean on the rhythm of this breath. Rhythm in this breath is the key to relaxation.

A side note: As you inhale, you are working on the glandular system. When you hold the breath in, you balance your blood chemistry, and emotions. And when you exhale, you work on the Nervous System.

*Safety Guideline: If you are pregnant or have a heart condition, do not hold your breath. Work with slow deep breathing instead.

Opportunities

Oppportunities

With change comes…

Wow! What a year it has been!!!

2020 woke me up- woke me up- to see that with change comes opportunity.

2020 was a year of unexpected change for most people. I time-traveled back to middle school and third grade via homeschooling my children. I had to close my school and then do whatever it took to open again in September. Change also meant becoming conscious of my reactions to the toss-and -turn of these ever-shifting waters. My new mantra became, “it is what it is.” What else was there to do?

“It is what it is” was not a graceful acceptance of What Is. It was a mantra that revealed a limiting belief of being powerless and overwhelmed when life threw unexpected changes my way.

So what could I do?

Change the belief - Change the words!

CHANGE = OPPORTUNITY

As I shifted my thinking, I started to believe that there is an opportunity for something new with every change. With every change, there is an opportunity to become a better person. With every change, the Universe was guiding me to a life aligned with my heart.

Every person, circumstance, or delay that triggered a negative emotion in me consciously awoke and energized me. These moments of change were initially met with resistance - a hopeless surrender - until I chose to see them as an opportunity. I was the one who needed to change, and there was always something to learn.

This perspective created a life-changing shift!

If I was unhappy with how someone communicated with me, I asked myself, “How can I communicate better in my life?” If I was disappointed with my children’s education, what can I do to create what they need? If I started feeling limited by an outside circumstance, then what do I need to learn?

Instead of finding fault with things outside myself, I became more empowered.

Like my upstairs home renovation project, my walls were coming down. I was adding in stronger support beams, and a new layout emerged in my life. Initially, on the outside, nothing looked different.

The change within lead to greater support, freedom, divine timing, and experiences that awakened me to see how truly empowered we all are in life.

What beliefs and feelings do you have that hold you down or keep you in a rut?

Maybe you have been unconscious of your own limiting beliefs or thoughts. Let your words and feelings guide you.

My teacher Dr. Levry says this: “Feelings are the language of the subconscious mind whereas words are the language of the conscious mind. Our emotions are there to give us feedback. When you are aligned to your true self, you feel great. If your inner programming is causing you pain, then you are not aligned to your true self.”

Pay attention to how you speak to yourself, what you believe, and how you label your thoughts and feelings.

When you start becoming more aware of your feelings, limiting beliefs, and the words you speak to and about yourself, then you begin the journey to living your potential. You start saying and attracting what you want from this beautiful, ever-changing life of infinite possibilities.

May your beliefs and feelings be a positive guiding light in your life.

Deepen Your Practice: A beautiful tool to add to one’s life is to listen to Dr. Levry’s soundtracks of Metaphysical Codes. These soundtracks bring Divine Wisdom and words into your life as you let go of limiting beliefs and create a clear pathway of empowering beliefs.

The one I listen to in the morning is for “Infinite Possibilities.”

Breathe and Choose

Breathe and Choose

I woke up this morning with the words “breathe” and “choose” in my mind along with a tightness in my chest and an awareness that I was barely breathing. I took a breath ……… and chose to be grateful. Grateful for these simple and powerful words that came into my life when I noticed that being a kind and positive person was becoming increasingly with every passing day.

Leap First & The Universe Will Follow

“LEAP FIRST & THE UNIVERSE WILL FOLLOW!”

Happy Waxing Moon! What do you want to see grow and expand in your life?  What lights you up? As the moon grows toward its fullness, what you give attention to will also grow and expand. During this time, put into action what you want to create. Take the first step……and yes, you may need to leap!

I did just that! I decided to follow my heart and enrolled in the Naam Yoga Level III training.  It begins this week! It all started with an idea; After I finished my 300 Hour Shakti Naam Cert, I had the idea and felt the need to act. I had a strong desire to create and I knew I wanted to proceed to the next level.  Immediately after this creative urge came the question, “Is this necessary?” I questioned myself!

So I reminded myself that every idea is a gift. My teacher Dr. Levry said, “Ideas are like angels.” I love ideas, because they open me up to creating something in my life that I need to experience, learn, or create. Some ideas require more commitment. Some ideas lead us to a path that connects us to joy, to our heart and to our destiny. New Ideas can lead us to make a difference in our lives and for others.

In the vast universe of ideas, ideas come to us for a reason. I could have had the idea of skydiving, playing the violin, or of being a championship weightlifter. But no, this idea came into my life as an opportunity to listen, feel, and decide.

I mentioned briefly to a friend about this training and my indecisiveness with making a decision. She said, “Tune into what’s best for you and your journey, and know that god will always support you when you follow your heart.”

I am so grateful for her words as it reminded me to have Faith! Have faith in your ideas, your values, and in those things that you want to do and create.

Listen to your ideas and intuition, they are guiding you!

Today, is there a way for you to take a step that supports you on your journey to follow your heart? You may need to leap and have faith that you are supported in every way. The universe will follow!

Love & Light,
Leana

Confidence. You're Invited!

Screen Shot 2020-05-04 at 9.54.12 AM.png

WAH! I am…confident!?

I’m not sure when I became unconfident. I think it happened slowly.

I finally knew that my confidence was something I needed to address when I caught myself saying I “couldn’t” do things that I wanted to do because I didn’t feel capable or “good enough” to do them.

During my first weekend training as a yoga teacher, I realized how much my lack of confidence was creating a certain kind of sadness, and acknowledged that I felt a lack of joy in my life. My classmates and I were receiving amazing wisdom and tools. We would practice the exercises and share our thoughts and experiences. But when it was my time to share, I didn’t feel like my thoughts and feelings were worthy of being shared.

I see now, that I wasn’t yet ready to be open, vulnerable, and share what was in my heart. And I didn’t feel comfortable vocalizing my own thoughts, so my mind would freeze when asked a question.

The strategy I had formed to get through this challenge, was to wait quietly until someone else answered the question. In doing so, I was able to create a quiet little cozy “nest” for myself. And, when I did speak, the words “I’m not sure” or “I don’t know” that came out of my mouth were different from what I wanted to say. So, somewhere along the way, I realized that I was out of practice. Out of practice of speaking up, speaking my truth, and speaking what was in my heart.

“Are you fully living your potential?” At the end of my second weekend, my teacher instructed, “Alright you have five minutes to choose something that you’ve learned and teach it to the rest of the class this weekend. Give one benefit, an interesting fact, and lead us through it.” I had a mini inner panic and thought to myself, “I didn’t even get to practice.” I spent most of the five scrambling through ideas about what I wanted to teach. My teacher asked, “Who wants to go first?” I did not volunteer. I tried to stay grounded, breathing slowly and holding onto the mudra that helps words flow (which I’d recently learned). Eventually, it was my turn. I started to speak and my body began to shake slightly. I couldn’t stop this visceral response.

I got through it, but afterward, I thought, “where did that 19-year old girl go? The one with so much confidence who could speak up, give a presentation, and figure skate in front of thousands of people?” I wanted to have that feeling of confidence and freedom again. Suddenly, the awareness sunk in that someday soon I would be teaching an entire 90 minutes of Shakti Naam Yoga Class.

I spoke with a beautiful friend about my fear, and she reminded me that I get to teach, not that I have to teach. So, began my quest…..to be confident again. That was my goal, CONFIDENCE. And, I was going to need to “face it until I made it!”

And so I began.

In addition to using my sound meditation practice through Naam, I began regularly practicing affirmations. Three minutes of “Wah! I am confident!” If you’re new to Naam, you’re likely wondering “Wah!? What is Wah?” Wah is the feeling of indescribable joy! Next, I added the Confidence Mudra (hand position in photo) to the affirmations. This was my go-to affirmation. I added these three minutes to my morning meditation and another three minutes in the car on the ride home from dropping my children off at school. Anytime a negative response or thought came up about myself, I would say the affirmation. By the 5th weekend of my teacher training, people started mentioning that they noticed a difference in me. They told me that I seemed more confident.

It’s been 15 months since I started this journey towards confidence. Since then, I’ve taught over 50 Shakti Naam Classes and I have loved leading every single one. Sure, I still get nervous and excited, and occasionally I still have doubts. But, those feelings don’t limit me or stop me as they used to in the past. I continue to put my practice into action to be more confident as I challenge myself to do things that make me feel vulnerable in life. I do this because I want to share who I am with others. I do this because becoming more confident feels empowering and is leading me to experience more freedom, trust, and creativity. And, it comes from a place of love. I do these affirmations every day because it works for me.

Do your words nourish, uplift, and empower you and others? Do your words create more of what you wish to see in the world? How would your life be if you used the power of the WORD to strengthen you?
